General Information about Wagmo
Wagmo, Inc. was launched in 2017 by self-described “dog-obsessed insurance nerd” Christie Horvath, who became passionate about starting the company after receiving a $10,000 vet bill for her dog, Denver, during business school. Horvath now serves as Wagmo’s CEO.
Wagmo is not a pet insurance company in the strictest sense. Instead, it’s described as a pet insurance and wellness company that provides an alternative to traditional pet insurance.
Its core product is a preventative pet wellness plan called Wagmo Wellness, which comes in three varieties at different monthly rates. The plans cover routine and preventative care, such as vaccines, routine exam fees, heartworm medicines, and even grooming and dental care, depending on the plan you choose.
Wagmo does also offer a pet insurance product that covers emergency accidents and illnesses, however it’s not available nationwide. Its wellness plans are its signature products.
What kinds of pets are eligible for Wagmo pet wellness plans?
Wagmo Wellness plans are available in every state of the U.S.
Wagmo’s wellness plans cover dogs and cats of all ages. No other types of pets are covered through Wagmo at this time.
What Wellness plans are available through Wagmo?
Wagmo offers 3 wellness plans:
- The Value Plan: “For the perfectly healthy pet who mostly needs annual check-ins with their vet.”
- The Classic Plan: “Our most popular plan — get all the basics covered with some added pampering once in a while.”
- The Deluxe Plan: "For your furry friend who needs a bit of extra attention with more trips to the groomer or the dentist’s chair."
- Wellness plans start at just $20.
- Wellness plan claims are processed fast: within 24 hours.
- Get reimbursement for services immediately after signing up.
- Get reimbursements through Venmo, PayPal, or a bank transfer.
- Choose any vet.
- The accident/illness insurance plan isn’t available everywhere.
- Like all pet insurance companies, Wagmo’s accident/illness plans do not cover pre-existing conditions.
How Much Does Wagmo Cost?
Wagmo lists a monthly rate for each of its wellness plans:
- The Value Plan: $20/month
- The Classic Plan: $36/month
- The Deluxe Plan: $59/month
If you decide to upgrade or downgrade your plan, you can do so at the end of a 12-month contract period. The initial price of your plan is the price in effect when your pet is enrolled. However, Wagmo stipulates that it “reserves the right to adjust price, services and the Terms and Conditions” of the agreement as of the date of any renewal.
Separately, Wagmo’s pet insurance product is dependent upon your pet’s breed, age, and the zip code you live in. It is not available in every location.
What makes Wagmo pet wellness plans worth it?
Unlike other pet insurance brands, Wagmo offers its wellness plans as standalone products. You are not required to sign up for an accident/illness plan to get routine care and wellness coverage as an add-on feature.
If you want to cover routine care but don’t want to cover emergencies, this makes Wagmo a great bargain.
For a low monthly fee, you can get a set number of office visits, vaccinations, tests, and preventative treatments covered up to a certain dollar amount. You can even get wellness plans that cover grooming fees and routine dental care.
How does the price compare to other plans?
Wagmo’s wellness plans are on par with the starting prices of add-on wellness plans from other providers. But because they offer wellness plans as stand-alone products, Wagmo might be more affordable for pet parents who are mostly interested in a wellness plan.
Wagmo’s wellness plans are all available at a flat rate. This might make Wagmo a more attractive option for some pet parents, especially if their pet is older.
Important Information to Know About Wagmo Pet Wellness Plans
How good are Wagmo’s reviews?
As a relatively new company, Wagmo doesn’t have a large presence on third-party customer review sites yet. But it does have 4.7/5 stars on its Facebook page (based on the feedback of 63 customers as of September 22nd, 2020). Many pet parents have left positive reviews about Wagmo’s great customer service and their fast reimbursement speeds.
NOTE:Keep in mind that reviews only offer a shade of context. When it comes to pet insurance, simple review aggregators do not illuminate the real data points and fine print as it relates to your unique pet. To get a data-driven, personalized recommendation on accident/illness coverage you can use Pawlicy Advisor to scan top providers for the best match based breed, age, location, lifetime costs, and more.

Because we bake in significant discounts to your monthly membership, cancellation mid-term may result in a fee. Pre-existing conditions are not covered by Wagmo’s wellness plans or insurance. However, they don’t exclude you from being eligible for Wagmo's plans.
Wagmo defines pre-existing conditions as follows: “A Medical Condition that first occurred or showed Clinical Signs before the effective date of this Policy, as shown on the Declarations Page, or showed Clinical Signs during the Waiting Period.”
Final Thoughts and Review
Wagmo is a great wellness plan option for those that want to be reimbursed for routine and preventive care. It's particularly useful for those who only want welness (routine care) coverage rather than bundling a wellness plan with accident/illness coverage. Additionally, if you already have pet insurance, but are interested in enrolling in a wellness plan but don't like what your insurance provider has to offer, you have the option to enroll in wellness coverage with Wagmo (while retaining accident/illness insurance with your existing provider).
If you're exploring pet wellness and insurance options, I highly recommend you try Pawlicy Advisor. It's a free marketplace that will give you personalized quotes across top providers all in one place so that you can easily compare savings and coverage side-by-side. Veterinarians LOVE it because Pawlicy Advisor provides a data-driven recommendation to help pet owners understand what coverage options are most important for their specific breed.
