What is Accident & Illness Coverage?

Accident-Illness coverage plans provide coverage benefits for treatments and tests for both accidents and illnesses that befall your pet (unlike accident-only plans). However, accident-illness coverage will not cover pre-existing conditions or routine care costs without adding a wellness plan to cover routine care.

Accident-Illness coverage is the most comprehensive type of coverage that you can have for your pet. This type of coverage is also the most common pet insurance plan type, making up 98% of pet insurance plans issued.

How Accident & Illness Coverage Works

Accident-Illness coverage gives you peace of mind knowing that your pet is covered for both accidents and sudden illnesses. This type of coverage works by reimbursing you for most veterinary costs, aside from preventive, routine care, or costs related to pre-existing conditions.

In-hospital stays, surgeries, and diagnostic tests are just a few of the things covered with accident-Illness coverage. Accident-Illness coverage helps with unforeseen veterinary expenses so that you can focus on what really matters - your pet’s health and happiness.

Key Takeaways

  • Accident-Illness coverage will not cover pre-existing health conditions or routine veterinary care costs.
  • Sudden illnesses and accidental injuries are both covered under this type of plan. This can include the cost of prescriptions needed to treat developed chronic illnesses.
  • Accident-Illness coverage is the most common form of pet insurance coverage issued within the pet insurance business.
