Tell us a little about your hospital.
Sage Veterinary Center is a female-owned, small animal, general practice, treating the pets of Jersey City, NJ by promoting community, prioritizing wellness, and providing individualized, compassionate care.
As the sole AAHA-accredited practice in the surrounding area, we pride ourselves on providing the highest possible level of care. Our focus is not only on elevating what veterinary medicine can look like for our tremendous clients and patients but also for our amazing staff—they're the heartbeat of our daily operations.
We strive to ensure our office space is enjoyable for both our clients and patients - we find that if our environment looks, smells, and sounds luxurious, it leads to a more positive experience for everyone! We love it when people say, "I didn't know a vet could look like this!".
What does a typical day look like for your team?
We are a four full-time DVM practice with a rehabilitation center for both cats and dogs. On any given day, we could have doctor and nurse appointments happening, alongside surgical and dental procedures.
Additionally, we strive to bring in as many specialty offerings into our general practice setting, to save our clients' time and financial resources.
We currently work with an orthopedic surgeon, an internal medicine specialist, a soft tissue surgeon, a cardiologist, and a feline dentistry practitioner, all of whom come into our office to consult and/or perform procedures with our patients in-house, so our clients do not have to travel to other larger facilities, that are typically more expensive and take longer to receive care.
Why do you believe financial education around pet care is important?
Financial transparency has been a priority for us at Sage since day one. Every patient here for a doctor's appointment and/or a surgical procedure, receives an itemized estimate prior to their treatments, so owners have all of the information they need to make a fully-informed decision regarding their pets care.
This allows everyone to feel cared for - both the patient and the client - so there are minimal unexpected costs which allow for a more positive experience for all parties involved.

Any success stories you'd like to share?
Biggie is a 9-year-old pug who came in for a rehab evaluation due to weakening of his hind legs and neurological signs.
Given the chronic nature of his condition, Biggie would need ongoing physical therapy treatments to maintain his mobility and quality of life.
Thanks to his pet insurance policy, Biggie has been able to come in for his physical therapy sessions every other week for the past 2 years. His sessions have included a combination of laser therapy, hydrotherapy, manual therapy, and therapeutic exercises.
With all the progress he has made, he is a very happy pup who continues to go on long walks with his family.
What advice would you give other hospitals thinking about working with Pawlicy Advisor or prioritizing pet insurance education?
Our responsibility to partner in caring for the pets who come through doors does not stop when they leave our exam rooms and pay their invoices.
If we can make it easier for folks to decide what policy is right for them, to help their pet get coverage, it will only help our ultimate goal of providing the best care for every pet we see.
In other words, the more pets who have insurance, the more likely we'll be to be able to provide the highest standard of care possible, and who doesn't want that? Pawlicy was, and still is, a no-brainer for our practice!
