Expert Insights

Is Costco Pet Insurance worth it?

"Costco Pet Insurance through Figo offers significant advantages, such as customizable policy terms, the option to cover exam fees, and two wellness plan options. That means you can tailor your coverage according to your pets' needs and your budget. The average time for claim reimbursement is fast compared to some competitors, and Figo Pet Insurance provides a level of coverage that is comparable to its competitors.

The 15% discount for Costco Members also presents a unique savings opportunity. Costco customers with pets should consider going with Figo before considering other options on the market.

However, the lack of an accident-only coverage option might be a drawback for those seeking more basic or economical insurance coverage. Figo’s monthly premiums have a higher starting cost than other pet insurance providers and can become expensive for certain breeds as they age."

Customers appreciate Figo Pet Insurance for its exceptional customer service. They say Figo's customer service reps are friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient at solving problems.

Some customers praise the claims process because they find it very clear and straightforward. Additionally, customers say the claims process is fast, and they have been satisfied with the amount of coverage their insurance offers.

However, some customers complain that they were denied coverage for reasons that aren't clear to them. Others say they've run into issues when submitting paperwork to Figo, which led to their claims being denied.

Essential for covering my young dog’s disease

“I never needed insurance with my first dog but it has been essential in affording care for my new dog who was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease around 8 months after I adopted him and has a lot of tests and specialist vet visits. Figo is fast and transparent and covered over $5000 in the first year. I hope they will continue to be this good as I work to get an effective treatment for my dog's weight loss.”

Bittersweet

“The claims are processed quickly, but many things are not covered. It is affordable, but ultimately not great if you're looking for a broad net of coverage. Also, there is a 14-day probation period when you first sign up, so do not schedule a vet appointment during this time... they'll say any findings were "pre-existing".”
