How To Talk To Your Patients About Pet Insurance

To make sure your patients have the coverage they need, we’ve developed a simple guide to help you have the pet insurance conversation with pet parents:

A diagram, broken down in detail below, that walks through how veterinarians should talk to their patients about pet insurance

Step 1

Routine Patient Visit

If the patient is established, you can have this conversation at the start of a routine check-up, or after treatment when they go to pay.

The best time to talk about pet insurance is when a patient brings their puppy or kitten in for the first time. New pet parents are looking for guidance regarding what they should be providing for their pet.

Step 2

Talk About Pet Insurance

Pet owners consider vets the primary authority on their pet’s health. To increase the percentage of insured animals and ensure pet parents can accept the treatment options you think are best, veterinarians and vet staff should proactively ask their patients if they have pet insurance.

The sooner a pet is insured the more likely any conditions or injuries that may arise will be covered (and not excluded as "pre-existing conditions").

Step 3

Let them know Pawlicy Advisor can help

Once a patient has said they’re interested in learning more about the pet insurance options available to them, offer them a Pawlicy Advisor brochure so they can compare insurance plans when they’re ready. Pawlicy Advisor is completely free for pet parents to use and guarantees the lowest price.

Many veterinary offices add pet insurance information to their websites within 'New Patient Forms' or 'Resources' pages. Pawlicy Advisor can provide free content for your website. Request this free content at fetch@pawlicy.com today!

Step 4

Happy, Insured Pet

When you simplify the pet insurance conversation and give pet parents a single, objective, transparent resource they can make an informed purchasing decision - and are more likely to invest in insurance.
