Does Armed Forces Insurance offer pet insurance?

Founded in 1887 by military leaders, Armed Forces Insurance (AFI) provides various types of insurance to retired and current members of the uniformed services, their children, and Department of Defense civilians. Their products include military renter insurance, military homeowner insurance, military auto insurance, and now, pet insurance.

Armed Forces’ pet insurance is administered by Embrace and underwritten by the American Modern Insurance Group.

  • Surgery, hospitalization, and nursing care
  • Diagnostic testing and imaging
  • Emergency room and specialist care
  • Alternative therapies and rehabilitation

The Accident-and-Illness plan offered by Embrace is quite comprehensive and comes with a 5% discount for eligible members. However, there are other pet insurance companies that offer special discounts to active duty service members and veterans, such as MetLife. USAA Pet Insurance, by contrast, offers a 15% discount to its service men and women members. Active duty pet parents can save an additional 5% for insuring multiple pets.

Taking care of your pet while in the military

Becoming a pet owner isn’t cheap. Some of the costs that accompany pet ownership include spaying/neutering, pet food and toys, and annual vet exams. Military pet owners might encounter additional costs such as boarding or transportation expenses related to PCS moves and deployments.

Purchasing insurance for your four-legged friend can help ease the cost of veterinary bills that result from injuries, illnesses, and routine visits. But how do you choose the best pet insurance plan?

We’ve done the hard work for you by pulling together top providers and reviewing them in our pet insurance blog. Or, quickly evaluate key details side-by-side using our pet insurance comparison charts, then generate a custom quote for the best plan at the lowest possible rate, guaranteed.
